Associate Professor Teresa Ubide is a volcano scientist, ARC Future Fellow, and an Affiliate of the ARC Centre in Critical Resources for the Future (CCRF). She brings internationally recognised expertise in magmatic petrology and high-resolution geochemistry, strengthening the Centre’s capability to understand how magmatic systems control both volcanic behaviour and the formation of critical metal deposits.
Teresa’s research focuses on developing and applying high-resolution geochemical techniques to interrogate magmatic crystals and their carrier melts. By decoding crystal-scale records of magmatic processes, her work constrains the drivers of volcanic eruptions and the conditions that lead to metal enrichment in magmatic systems. This approach provides critical insights into how and where metals essential for the green energy transition accumulate within the Earth’s crust.
A core contribution Teresa brings to CCRF is leadership in understanding magmatic fertility, particularly for copper in subduction-related magmatic arcs (including porphyry Cu–Mo systems) and for rare earth elements in alkaline magmas and carbonatites. Her research directly supports CCRF priorities focused on linking magma evolution, metal transport, and ore-forming processes across diverse tectonic settings.
