Theme 3 – Accelerating Processing – ARC Training Centre in Critical Resources for the Future

This theme will identify new technologies and deliver new flowsheets tailored to optimising critical mineral recovery from a range of deposits, to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of Australia’s minerals sector. We will address issues relating to water usage, energy consumption, reducing environmental and geotechnical risks, and minimising mining footprint, and we seek to establish the role of site-deployable technologies.

This theme will focus on:

Developing life cycle assessment models for critical mineral processing flowsheets
Enhancing existing mineral processing strategies by upgrading by-products and making them more amenable to subsequent recycling, reuse and/or storage
Identifying optimal mineral processing techniques for adequate size reduction, size control, enrichment, upgrading, and material handling
Establishing novel metallurgical processes that enhance the recovery of critical metals from ore minerals
Developing strategies to reduce and repurpose mine waste and tailings
