Theme 4 – Accelerating Geo-data Intelligence – ARC Training Centre in Critical Resources for the Future

Data analysis, modelling and interpretation now play a central role in geoscience research and mineral exploration. Advanced machine learning, artificial intelligence and integrated data analytics are essential for transforming complex, multi-scale geological and industrial datasets into actionable knowledge. This theme establishes a coordinated, Centre-wide approach to geo-data science, strengthening evidence-based discovery, characterisation and processing of critical minerals.

This theme will focus on:

Develop integrated machine learning and AI frameworks to support critical mineral exploration and mineral fertility prediction
Build data-to-knowledge platforms, including knowledge graph technologies, to improve data integration, accessibility and interoperability across research programs
Deliver interactive visualisation and decision-support tools that enhance interpretation and reduce uncertainty in exploration and resource development
Incorporate expert geological knowledge into advanced data analytics to generate robust, testable hypotheses
Train the next generation of geoscientists in data science and AI technologies, supporting industry innovation and Australia’s leadership in critical minerals research
