Unravelling the Behaviour and Concentration Processes of Rare Earth Elements in Regolith Environments

Description: With the rise of clay-hosted REE mineralisation as a significant alternative source, particularly for high-value heavy REEs (HREEs), this project aims to enhance understanding of REE concentration in regolith environments. The research will focus on:

  • Investigating REE distribution and concentration in regolith profiles.
  • Analysing mineralogical and geochemical factors influencing REE enrichment.
  • Evaluating weathering processes and physio-chemical conditions affecting REE deposits.

Benefits: This project will advance knowledge of REE enrichment mechanisms, leading to better exploration strategies for clay-hosted deposits. Insights gained will support the development of targeted exploration techniques, helping to unlock new REE resources in South Australia and significantly enhance Australia’s position in the global REE market, a potential source of national pride and optimism.
