Description: This project aims to investigate the evolution and formation of the Rocha da Rocha REE-Nb-Sc-Ta-U Province, Bahia, Northeast Brazil. It will seek to characterise the mineralogical, geochemical and isotopic signatures of mineralisation, which will be used to explore the physical and chemical processes driving REE enrichment and ore genesis. It will also investigate the subsequent evolution, weathering and geochemical dispersion of REE and other key elements following initial formation, with the final goal of developing a comprehensive mineral systems model for the province.
Benefits: REE and other critical minerals are essential components in many of the green technologies required for the energy transition. By advancing our understanding of the processes driving ore genesis within Rocha da Rocha, this project will provide a framework for exploration strategies both within the deposit and for any analogous occurrences globally.
