DESCRIPTION
This project will characterise a selected group of carbonate melts associated with Nb-REE mineralisation and Ni-Cu-PGE-Te-Au magmatic-hydrothermal deposits globally to establish the spatial and genetic link between different mineral systems. This project will integrate experimental work and natural observations to unveil the role of carbonate melt to transport and concentrate precious, base and critical metals across the lithosphere. Characterisation will be geochemical and isotopic in nature, using an integrated workflow across different laboratories in Australia and overseas.
BENEFITS
By searching and establishing a spatial link between mineral systems that are currently thought not to have any specific genetic link, this research will contribute to accelerating discovery of new deposits that may not have current analogues, favouring a process-based understanding of ore forming processes that is not commodity-specific.
