Quantitative Exploration of Spatio-Temporal Metasomatic Mantle Sources of Metals

DESCRIPTION
This PhD project is supervised by Dr Isra Ezad and co-supervised by Professor Marco Fiorentini. The mantle, with its mineralogical and chemical complexity contains domains of hydrous mantle assemblages that may be enriched in economically significant elements such as Cu, Ni, Co, Cr, and PGEs. This research project hypothesises that these hydrous domains could be crucial sources for various metal deposits, including sediment-hosted copper, IOCGs, high-grade copper porphyries, and magmatic sulphides. This project aims to explore the potential of alternative mantle domains as primary contributors to the formation of diverse mineral systems, potentially expanding exploration opportunities.

BENEFITS
This research will provide insights into the geochemical behaviour of critical metals in diverse mantle domains, potentially revealing new exploration targets for metal deposits. It will enhance understanding of mantle processes and contribute to developing innovative geochemical tools for resource exploration.
