Description: This PhD project develops multimodal foundation models for mineral exploration by integrating diverse geoscience datasets, including geochemical, geophysical, geological, remote sensing and text-based information. Using advanced artificial intelligence, the project will create a unified framework capable of identifying geological patterns, predicting mineral prospectivity and supporting a range of exploration tasks from a single integrated model.

Benefits: By combining multiple sources of geological information into a single AI-driven platform, this research will improve the accuracy, efficiency, and consistency of mineral exploration. The project will support more informed exploration decisions, reduce uncertainty in target generation, and enhance resource discovery. It will also strengthen Australia’s capability in applying artificial intelligence to geoscience, helping to train the next generation of researchers in advanced data science, and supporting innovation across the critical minerals sector.
