Geological evolution & critical mineral (REE, Li, U, Co) potential of the Curnamona Province, South Australia

Description: This PhD project will investigate the largely understudied Curnamona Province in eastern South Australia, focusing on the Olary Domain. Key research questions include:

  • Crustal architecture and setting from the Mesoproterozoic to Phanerozoic.
  • Nature and timing of hydrothermal alteration, magmatism, and metasomatic episodes.
  • Evolution and significance of alkaline magmatic episodes (e.g., Mount Victoria) for REE and other critical minerals.
  • Tectonic and mineralisation-related links between the Olary Domain, Broken Hill Domain, Gawler Craton, and Mount Isa inliers.

Benefits: The project will provide critical insights into the mineralisation potential of the Curnamona Province, helping to unlock new exploration opportunities and improve strategies for critical mineral extraction. This research will also enhance understanding of Proterozoic terranes across Australia, supporting national mineral resource security and exploration efforts.
