Formation conditions of lithium-rich pegmatites

Research Programs

DESCRIPTION
This PhD research aims to determine conditions and processes that lead to the formation of lithium deposits, aiding in the exploration and sustainable extraction of this critical resource. By utilising state-of-the-art analytical techniques including SHRIMP and LA-ICP-MS, we will analyse mineral trace elements and isotopic compositions to track magmatic differentiation mechanisms and enrichment processes. Additionally, this project will also focus on melt inclusions to reveal details of pressure and temperature conditions and fluid/melt sources of the LCT pegmatites.

BENEFITS
This research will enhance exploration targeting for lithium-rich pegmatites, bolstering Australia’s position as a key player in the mining and supply of critical minerals. By advancing the understanding of metallogenic processes and conditions of ore formation, the project will contribute to improved exploration and mining strategies and support sustainable practices in the mineral sector.
