Expression of Li-Cs-Ta pegmatites in the Critical Zone

Research Programs

Description: This PhD project investigates how Li-Cs-Ta pegmatites evolve during weathering in the critical zone. It aims to understand how ore elements are mobilised and dispersed in the weathering profile, and to track the behaviour of resistate minerals, both of which are crucial for exploration and ore processing. Benefits: By enhancing our understanding of pegmatite behaviour and chemical signals of fertility in weathering profiles, this research will aid in more targeted exploration for lithium and other critical minerals under cover. It will support the growth of Australia’s mining sector by improving resource identification and extraction techniques, which is vital for meeting the rising global demand for these materials.
