Description: The Pine Creek Orogen, traditionally known for its gold and uranium deposits, is emerging as a key region for rare earth elements (REE). This PhD project aims to explore the geological setting and ore genesis of recent REE discoveries such as the Quantum, Skyfall, and Stromberg deposits. The research will focus on:
- Geological history and evolution of the western Pine Creek Orogen.
- Characteristics and mineralisation styles of REE deposits.
- Magmatic, hydrothermal, and regolith processes leading to REE concentration.
- Key geological events facilitating mineralisation.
- Integration of new insights with existing data to develop prospectivity maps for future REE exploration.
Benefits: This project will advance the understanding of REE mineralisation in a new and promising region, enhancing Australia’s potential to expand its REE resources. The findings will support more effective exploration strategies and contribute to Australia’s position as a leading supplier of critical minerals, essential for various high-tech and green technologies.
