Multimodal 2D–3D Geoscience Learning for Integrated Surface and Subsurface Understanding

Research Programs

Description: This project develops a unified deep learning framework that integrates 2D and 3D geoscience data, including geological maps, remote sensing imagery, drillholes, geological models and geophysical datasets. By linking surface observations with subsurface structures, the project aims to create a shared geological representation that supports geological interpretation, mineral exploration, resource estimation and environmental decision-making.

Benefits: The project will improve geological understanding and enable more reliable predictions for mineral exploration and resource estimation. By reducing uncertainty and supporting advanced AI applications across exploration, mining and environmental management, it will strengthen Australia’s capability in geoscience artificial intelligence and support innovation in critical minerals development.
