Professor Henning Prommer is a co-founder and Director of Ekion, where he is leading the development of innovative technologies for sustainable critical mineral extraction. He is also a Winthrop Research Professor at the University of Western Australia, bringing decades of experience in environmental geoscience, hydrogeology, and reactive transport modelling across both academia and industry.
Henning has an internationally recognised career spanning roles at the University of Western Australia and CSIRO, where his research has advanced the understanding of environmental geochemistry, groundwater systems, and subsurface processes. His work has consistently focused on translating fundamental science into practical solutions for environmental management, resource recovery, and sustainable mining.
Developing electrokinetic in situ recovery (EK-ISR) technology, Henning is helping transform the way critical minerals are extracted, combining scientific innovation with industry applications to support a more efficient and environmentally responsible resource sector. Henning brings his experience of bridging the gap between research and commercialisation.
Within the Centre, Henning co-supervises PhD researchers Aqsa Riaz and Jacqueline Diniz Lopez, supporting the next generation of researchers working at the interface of geoscience, engineering, and sustainable resource development. Through his mentorship and strong industry engagement, he provides students with valuable opportunities to develop research that addresses real-world challenges and delivers impact beyond academia.
