Professor Greg Yaxley is a Chief Investigator in the ARC Centre in Critical Resources for the Future and Chair of the Centre’s Mentoring and Professional Development Sub-Committee. In this role, he provides leadership in researcher development while contributing deep technical expertise to the Centre’s experimental research programs.
Greg is a leading experimental petrologist whose research investigates high-pressure and high-temperature processes in the Earth’s mantle and crust. His work focuses on carbonatite formation, critical metal deposits (including REE, niobium and tantalum), volatile-driven melting processes, and the deep carbon cycle. He combines advanced experimental techniques with synchrotron spectroscopy and micro-analytical methods to address questions central to critical resource formation.
Within CCRF, Greg contributes to projects examining carbonatite-hosted niobium and REE mineralisation, magmatic–hydrothermal transitions, partitioning of critical metals, and experimental geochemistry of critical metals. He supervises HDR students working on experimental and carbonatite-focused projects and plays a key role in mentoring early-career researchers across the Centre
