UWA Matthew Demmer

Chalice Mining Limited, PHD, University of Western Australia

Matthew Demmer is pursuing a PhD in Earth Sciences at the University of Western Australia, where his research focuses on the petrological controls of the Gonneville Ni-Co-PGE deposit.

The Petrogenesis of the Gonneville Ni-Co-PGE deposit, Western Australia – ARC Training Centre in Critical Resources for the Future

Matthew uses extensive datasets and advanced machine learning techniques to study magmatic sulfide systems, refine mineralogical characterisation, and enhance metallurgical processes. His work will provide a deeper understanding of the Gonneville deposit’s petrogenesis, contributing to more efficient resource extraction and processing while strengthening Australia’s position in the global mining industry.

With extensive experience in the mining sector, Matthew has held key roles in geology and resource management. He currently serves as the Principal Research Geologist – Chalice Mining Limited, overseeing geological activities related to the Julimar project. Previously, Matthew worked as a Geological Superintendent at Panoramic Resources, managing geological practices for the Savannah North mining operation and spearheading exploration projects such as the drill programme at Frog Hollow. He also has a proven track record as a Senior Project Geologist at Horizon Gold, where he reassessed regional gold targets and discovered a Zn-Cu-Ag deposit at Altair.

Matthew holds a Graduate Certificate in Geostatistics from Edith Cowan University and an MSc in Mining Geology from the Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter.
