Le Xi K’ng is pursuing a PhD at the University of Queensland under the supervision of Assoc Professor Anita Parbhakar-Fox. Her research investigates the variations in pyrite texture and chemical composition and their effects on its transformation during roasting. Her work will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of extracting valuable metals while supporting the development of more sustainable processing methods that improve Australia’s mining industry’s competitiveness and environmental performance.
Pyrite to Pyrrhotite transformations during roasting – ARC Training Centre in Critical Resources for the Future
Le Xi brings her experience as a Senior Research Assistant/Technician at the Sustainable Minerals Institute at the University of Queensland, where she focuses on collecting and characterising mine wastes to explore their potential valorisation. Lexi holds a BSc in Geology and Geography from the University of Tasmania (2018) and completed her BSc (Hons) in Environmental Geochemistry in 2019, which involved characterising the geochemical and physical properties of tailings in Rosebery, Tasmania, as part of the Transforming the Mining Value Chain (TMVC) project.
Lexi’s professional experience spans a range of environmental consultancy roles, where she contributed to industry and government projects across exploration, rehabilitation, and closure phases from 2020 to 2023. Passionate about encouraging younger generations to pursue STEM fields, Lexi regularly participates in outreach activities organised by her workplace and external organisations.
