Dr Zachary Sudholz

Australian National University, Post Doctoral Fellow

Dr Zachary Sudholz is a Research Fellow in the Geochemistry Research Group at the Research School of Earth Sciences, The Australian National University (ANU), joining the Centre to investigate the experimental geochemistry of critical metals. Working with Professor Andrew Berry and Professor Greg Yaxley, his research focuses on how critical metals are mobilised and concentrated within the Earth’s crust under varying physical and chemical conditions, helping to improve predictive models for critical mineral exploration.

Prior to joining ANU RSES, Zachary was a postdoctoral research associate at Bullard Labs, The University of Cambridge (2023–2026), and a bye-fellow at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge (2025–2026). Zachary holds a PhD in experimental petrology from the Australian National University (2022), a BSc (Honours) from the University of Western Australia (2017), and a BSc from Monash University (2016).

Zachary’s broader research focuses on high-temperature geochemistry and petrology of Earth’s lithosphere. He is particularly interested in understanding spatial and temporal variations in the composition, temperature, and structure of the lithospheric mantle, as well as high-temperature processes within the lower crust. His research integrates experimental petrology, microanalytical techniques, field work, and thermodynamic modelling, and makes use of world-leading facilities at RSES and the Australian Synchrotron.
