Dr Margaux Le Vaillant is Senior Research Scientist and Orebody Geoscience Group Leader at CSIRO, where she leads research on the formation and exploration of magmatic nickel–copper–cobalt–PGE sulfide deposits. Since joining CSIRO in 2014, Margaux has advanced from post-doctoral fellow to group leader, heading teams focused on hydrothermal footprints and ore-deposit petrology.
Her international training includes a PhD at the University of Western Australia, a Master of Science in Mineral Exploration from Lulea University of Technology in Sweden, an engineering degree from ENSG in France, and a BSc from the National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine.
Margaux is a Mentor in the Centre; she brings a collaborative and globally informed perspective to mentoring. Margaux enjoys helping students and early-career researchers build strong research networks, develop exploration-focused skills, and connect with industry partners, making her an outstanding guide for anyone interested in critical metals and ore-deposit geology.
