Dr Isra Ezad is a Lecturer and ARC DECRA Fellow in the School of Earth and Oceans at the University of Western Australia. She is an experimental petrologist and geochemist whose research investigates how melts and fluids move through Earth’s mantle and transport metals toward the crust.
Isra combines high-pressure, high-temperature experiments with field geology and geochemistry to understand mantle melting, metasomatism, and the formation of metal-rich magmas. Her research has particular relevance to critical and precious-metal systems, including nickel, copper, cobalt and gold. She is also developing UWA’s experimental petrology capability and works closely with collaborators across academia, government and industry.
In addition to her research, Isra is actively engaged in graduate supervision and is an academic mentor for CCRF.
As a mentor, Isra offers the perspective of an early-career academic actively navigating the transition to research independence, establishing a laboratory and research group, developing industry collaborations, and balancing research, teaching and service. She is particularly keen to support PhD students and early-career researchers in building confidence, identifying the broader significance of their work, and developing a career path that reflects their own interests and ambitions. Her mentoring style is open, practical and supportive, with an emphasis on honest conversations and helping mentees find their own voice.
