Geoff Batt is an experienced researcher with a passion for science communication and a record of executive leadership to MD and CEO level in a range of universities and other knowledge-based organisations, including lean start-ups, research consultancies, and statutory government agencies. He is currently a Research Portfolio Manager with the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia, where he administers State Government grant programs, scholarships, and strategic planning to support contemporary minerals research and workforce training addressing the future challenges of the Western Australian minerals industry.
His current leadership in the public administration of science is informed by early career experience as a successful practitioner-educator across multiple professions including geoscience research, science writing, and business management. Geoff has worked and managed research programs at leading international institutions in the USA, UK, and Australia, and has experienced the reality of setting up and running a successful commercial research consultancy.
As a mentor, Geoff says he wants to understand your passion for research, and will challenge you to explain the work you do, and the capacity of your research to make the world a better place. He aims to help mentees build their professional skills and networks, and to share his experience of what it takes to build a research career across different sectors.
