Professor Tony Kemp is a geologist and geochemist at the University of Western Australia, with expertise in igneous and metamorphic petrology, isotope geochemistry, and geochronology. He completed his PhD at ANU and has held research positions in the UK, Japan, and the USA, before joining UWA in 2011 as an ARC Future Fellow.
Tony’s research focuses on the generation and evolution of the continental crust, crust-mantle processes, and the transport and enrichment of critical metals essential for sustainable energy and advanced technological applications. He collaborates widely with industry and government partners to apply his research in practical and impactful ways.
As a mentor, Tony is passionate about helping early-career researchers and PhD students realise their potential. He brings a combination of deep scientific expertise, a supportive and attentive approach, and life experience—including raising four daughters—which gives him a grounded and empathetic perspective. Tony encourages mentees to take charge of their career paths, embrace challenges, and pursue their ambitions with confidence.
