Prof Anita Parbhakar-Fox has transitioned from Deputy Director in the ARC Centre in Critical Resources for the Future, now supporting the Centre from an industry perspective as Principal Global Characterisation at BHP. Building on a successful career at SMI-UQ, she also holds the position of Honorary Professor, enhancing connections between industry and academia in applied geosciences, primarily through CCRF via supervision, mentoring, and committee participation, including as a member of the Student Experience Subcommittee.
Anita brings over 19 years of expertise in mine waste geoscience, focusing on the characterisation, management, and transformation of mine waste to reduce environmental impact and enable recovery of critical metals in line with circular economy principles. Her technical expertise spans geometallurgy, acid rock drainage prediction, and advanced mineralogical and geochemical analysis (XRD, SEM, EPMA, MLA, LA-ICPMS). She has a proven record of leading multidisciplinary teams, mentoring researchers, and fostering collaboration between industry, academia, and government to deliver innovative, practical solutions for sustainable resource recovery.
Within CCRF, Anita continues to contribute to projects focused on mine waste characterisation, critical metal recovery, and environmental risk mitigation, providing strategic guidance and supporting the Centre’s translational impact. She also supervises and advises postgraduate researchers on practical applications of mine waste valorisation.
